Sacraments & Spiritual Practices
Fundamental Pentecostalism upholds the biblical sacraments of Water Baptism and Holy Communion, alongside Spirit-led worship, prayer, fasting, deliverance, and supernatural ministry.
1. Water Baptism
- Baptism is an outward sign of inward transformation, commanded by Christ (Matthew 28:19).
- Mode of Baptism: Full immersion in water.
- Who can be baptized? Those who have repented and professed faith in Christ.
- Baptism symbolizes:
- Death to sin and new life in Christ (Romans 6:4).
- Identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
2. Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper)
- Communion is observed in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice (1 Corinthians 11:24-26).
- The elements:
- Bread represents Christ’s body, broken for us.
- The Cup (Wine or Juice) represents His blood, shed for the remission of sins.
- Communion is taken regularly, with reverence and self-examination (1 Corinthians 11:28-30).
3. Worship & Praise in Pentecostal Tradition
- Worship is Spirit-led and expressive, involving:
- Singing & Music – Using psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19).
- Dancing & Clapping – Biblical expressions of worship (Psalm 149:3).
- Shouting & Prophetic Declarations – Declaring the works of the Lord (Psalm 47:1).
- Anointed Instruments – Used in worship to glorify God (2 Chronicles 5:13).
Spontaneous and prophetic worship is encouraged, allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely.
4. Prayer, Intercession & Spiritual Warfare
- Prayer is central to the believer’s life (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
- Types of prayer:
- Personal Prayer – Daily communication with God.
- Corporate Prayer – Unified prayer gatherings.
- Intercessory Prayer – Standing in the gap for others.
- Spiritual Warfare Prayer – Using authority in Christ to rebuke darkness (Ephesians 6:12).
- Speaking in Tongues is an essential part of Pentecostal prayer life, as seen in:
- Personal edification (1 Corinthians 14:4).
- Intercessory groanings (Romans 8:26).
- Spiritual declarations in warfare.
5. Fasting & Consecration
- Fasting is a spiritual discipline for seeking God (Matthew 6:16-18).
- Common fasts include:
- Partial Fast – Abstaining from specific foods (Daniel 10:2-3).
- Complete Fast – Abstaining from all food for a period (Acts 13:2).
- Supernatural Fast – Extended fasts with divine empowerment (Exodus 34:28).
- Fasting is combined with prayer for breakthrough, revival, and consecration.
6. Deliverance & Spiritual Authority
- Jesus’ ministry included casting out demons (Mark 16:17), and deliverance remains essential in Fundamental Pentecostalism.
- Deliverance ministry includes:
- Breaking generational curses (Exodus 20:5-6).
- Casting out unclean spirits (Luke 10:19).
- Inner healing for emotional and spiritual wounds.
- Believers are given authority over darkness, through the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.
7. Fivefold Ministry & Prophetic Gifts
- The Fivefold Ministry (Ephesians 4:11) equips the Church:
- Apostles – Pioneer new works and establish foundations.
- Prophets – Speak God’s revelation to the Church.
- Evangelists – Carry the Gospel to the lost.
- Pastors – Shepherd the flock and provide spiritual care.
- Teachers – Instruct and uphold sound doctrine.
- Prophecy & Divine Revelation are active today:
- Words of knowledge & wisdom (1 Corinthians 12:8).
- Dreams & visions (Joel 2:28).
- Prophetic intercession for nations and individuals.
8. Revival & Supernatural Ministry
- Fundamental Pentecostalism is a revival movement, believing in:
- Great awakenings and outpourings of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:17).
- Miracles, signs, and wonders following the preaching of the Word (Mark 16:20).
- Holy Spirit-led gatherings where God moves powerfully.
